If you workout regularly you probably know the struggle: What to eat before a workout to feel energized, but not too full?
Complex carbohydrates that are easily digested work well. For example dried fruit - it has a lot of concentrated energy, since the water is removed in the process.
Bananas are also a great choice: they give you a quick burst of energy and provide your muscles and nerves with potassium.
Another great pre-workout food are oats - they are full of fibre, so the energy is released slowly which keeps you going for longer!
One of the best energy boosters is ...drumroll... natural caffeine. Instead of reaching for energy-drinks or coffee - try Matcha or Guarana! One big advantage is that the caffeine in Matcha (green tea) enters the bloodstream slowly and exits the same way, thus no energy crashes.
The natural occuring caffeine in the superfood Guarana has a similar effect. It is released slowly and results in longlasting energy without crashing.
Here are two of my favourite pre-workout snacks:
POWER MATCHA SMOOTHIE
- 5g Power Matcha Mix
- 1 banana
- 1 handful spinach
- 1 cup almond milk
- Blend everything until creamy.
- Serve in a glass.
- 5g Energy Bomb Mix
- 1 cup pitted dates
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup almonds
- Blend all ingredients in a food-processor until sticky and roll into balls.
- Store in the fridge.
